THE NEHEMIAH PROJECTS OF ACADIANA

ABOUT US

The Nehemiah Projects of Acadiana, Inc. (NPAI) was formed in 2021, in the midst of a global pandemic and during a time where natural disasters were destroying homes and separating families and causing mental and material devastation to those living in Louisiana. Starting in the city of Abbeville in Vermilion Parish where many of our board members grew up, NPAI works to revitalize, give hope and share joy.

The projects of NPAI include creating workforce opportunities, supporting higher education, and providing youth reformation through our 5 pillars. These pillars include: Education, Health & Wellness, Career & Financial Planning, Social Services, and Community Revitalization.  In addition, young adults in the community will also find resources to complete diplomas, seek guidance and direction in attending college, starting a business, or receive skilled training and grow in financial literacy so that they can invest in themselves and their communities, buy new homes, renovate old ones and build a life for their families in Acadiana.

NPAI also wants to shine a light on the legacy of James A. Herod.  Reverend James A. Herod is acknowledged as the father of African-American education in Abbeville. He and his wife Josephine, both educators, lived and preached the belief that earning an education created pride in a community and that it required strong faith and the will to work hard.

The Nehemiah projects of Acadiana honors that legacy by committing our mission and our vision to providing those opportunities for disadvantaged communities. These projects are just the beginning of the many great ways we want to give a hand up to underserved areas in Acadiana.
